marine reserve
Protected sea area
A marine reserve is a protected area of ocean where fishing, drilling, and other extractive activities are restricted or prohibited to preserve ecosystems and allow marine life to recover.
Unlike marine parks, which may permit some commercial use, reserves typically emphasize strict conservation: The coral reefs within the marine reserve have rebounded since fishing was banned.
