magic user
Wielder of spells
A magic user is someone who wields magical powers in fantasy settings—games, novels, and roleplaying contexts.
The term emerged from tabletop gaming as a generic class label encompassing wizards, sorcerers, mages, and similar practitioners: Our party needs a magic user for the dungeon.
It remains common in video games and fantasy fiction as a broad category distinct from fighters or rogues.
