mad science
Ethics-free laboratory work
Mad science is the pursuit of knowledge or invention that ignores ethical boundaries, safety concerns, or conventional wisdom—often with dangerous or catastrophic results.
The term evokes fiction's archetypal mad scientist: a brilliant but reckless figure creating monsters, doomsday devices, or forbidden experiments.
In casual use, mad science describes any ambitious tinkering that seems ill-advised or wildly unconventional: His garage projects were pure mad science.
