loosies
Sold-by-the-stick cigarettes
Loosies are individual cigarettes sold separately rather than by the pack.
The practice is illegal in most places because it circumvents tobacco taxes and age verification, but loosies remain common in convenience stores and bodegas in lower-income neighborhoods: He bought a loosie for fifty cents.
The term occasionally extends to other items sold individually from larger packages.
