longlists
First-round selections
Longlists are preliminary lists of candidates or nominees before final selection—longer than the shortlist that follows.
A prize committee might announce a longlist of twenty novels, later narrowed to five finalists: She was thrilled just to make the longlist.
The verb longlist means to include on such a list: The book was longlisted for the Booker Prize.
