lockdown order
Stay-at-home directive
A lockdown order is an official directive requiring people to stay in place—typically indoors—during an emergency.
Schools issue lockdown orders during security threats; governments issued them during the COVID-19 pandemic to restrict movement and slow transmission: The governor's lockdown order closed all nonessential businesses.
The term gained widespread use after 2020.
