line judges
Court boundary watchers
Line judges are officials in sports like tennis and volleyball who watch boundary lines and call whether a ball lands in or out of bounds.
They assist the head referee by focusing on specific lines, making split-second rulings that can decide points: The line judge signaled the serve was out.
In American football, line judges monitor the line of scrimmage.
