lighting out

Making quick escape

Lighting out is departing quickly, especially to escape or embark on an adventure.

The phrase carries a sense of urgency or spontaneity: We're lighting out for the coast at dawn.

Mark Twain made it famous with Huck Finn's intention to "light out for the Territory" rather than be civilized.
