left wings
Liberal political groups
Left wings are the leftward divisions of political parties or movements, favoring progressive, liberal, or socialist positions.
The term derives from seating arrangements in the French National Assembly, where radicals sat to the presiding officer's left.
A left wing is also the left side of a sports formation or the corresponding player: The left wing crossed the puck to center.
