karma system
Digital behavior consequences
A karma system is a point-based reputation mechanism on online platforms where users gain or lose standing based on community approval.
Upvotes increase karma, downvotes decrease it.
The term borrows from the Hindu and Buddhist concept of actions determining future outcomes: Reddit's karma system rewards popular posts.
High karma may unlock privileges or simply signal credibility.
