joint strain

Overworked hinge ache

Joint strain refers to injury of the muscles or tendons surrounding a joint, caused by overstretching or overuse.

The term is slightly imprecise—technically, strains affect muscles and tendons while sprains affect ligaments—but in common usage, joint strain describes any painful overexertion injury around a joint: I got a joint strain from lifting boxes all weekend.
