irreverent humor
Jokes mocking authority
Irreverent humor mocks or treats lightly what others consider sacred, serious, or deserving of respect—religion, authority, death, national symbols, revered figures.
The comedy comes from violating expectations of deference: The show's irreverent humor spares no one, from presidents to popes.
Distinguished from mere rudeness by wit and often by an underlying point about hypocrisy or pomposity.
