infernal contract
Soul-selling pact
An infernal contract is an agreement with a devil or demon, trading one's soul for earthly benefits—wealth, power, knowledge, or talent.
The concept appears throughout Western folklore and literature, most famously in the Faust legend.
In fantasy gaming and fiction, infernal contracts often involve elaborate terms and loopholes: The warlock signed an infernal contract for magical abilities.
The phrase sometimes appears figuratively for any agreement with ruinous long-term consequences.
