An immersion blender is a handheld kitchen appliance with a motorized blade at one end that blends ingredients directly in a pot, bowl, or container.

Unlike countertop blenders that require transferring hot soup or sauces, an immersion blender goes into the food itself.

Also called a stick blender or hand blender, it excels at pureeing soups, making smoothies, and emulsifying sauces.

I used the immersion blender to smooth out the butternut squash soup.
