idiocracy
Rule by fools
Idiocracy describes a society governed by or dominated by idiots, or a system where stupidity prevails over intelligence and competence.
The word gained currency from a 2006 film depicting a future America dumbed down by dysgenic breeding and cultural decay.
It's now used to criticize perceived societal decline: We're living in an idiocracy where celebrity opinions matter more than expert knowledge.
