hypercorrecting
Correcting too much
Hypercorrecting is applying a grammar rule where it doesn't belong, usually in an attempt to sound more educated or proper.
Someone who learned not to say "me and him went" might hypercorrect to between you and I instead of the correct between you and me.
The impulse to sound correct produces the opposite result.
