hotshot crew
Wildfire combat team
A hotshot crew is an elite team of wildland firefighters trained to battle the most dangerous and remote forest fires.
These crews—typically twenty firefighters—hike into rugged terrain with hand tools, cutting firebreaks and managing controlled burns where vehicles and aircraft can't reach.
The hotshot crew worked eighteen-hour shifts on the fire line.
The name reflects both their skill and the intense conditions they face.
