parental neglect
Failing one's children
Parental neglect is the failure of parents or guardians to provide adequate care for a child's basic needs—food, shelter, supervision, medical attention, emotional support.
Unlike abuse, which involves harmful action, neglect is harmful inaction.
It ranges from leaving young children unsupervised to ignoring serious health or educational needs.
The court found evidence of parental neglect in the home.
