holy anointing
Ritualistic oil blessing
Holy anointing is the ritual application of consecrated oil to a person or object, setting them apart for sacred purpose.
In Jewish and Christian traditions, prophets, priests, and kings received anointing as a sign of divine selection—Christ means "the anointed one." The practice continues in Catholic and Orthodox sacraments for the sick, dying, and newly ordained: The priest administered holy anointing to the dying man.
