helmet law
Cranial safety requirement
A helmet law is legislation requiring motorcyclists, bicyclists, or other vehicle operators to wear protective headgear.
These laws vary widely by jurisdiction—some apply only to minors, others to all riders.
Helmet laws are perennial subjects of debate, pitting public safety against personal freedom: The state repealed its helmet law in 1997.
