hear of
Become aware of
To hear of something or someone is to become aware of their existence or learn about them, usually through indirect means rather than direct experience.
I've never heard of that band means you don't know they exist.
The phrase often appears in negative constructions to express disapproval or refusal: I won't hear of you paying for dinner means the speaker absolutely refuses to allow it.
