hanging up
Terminating a call
Hanging up is ending a phone call by disconnecting the line.
The phrase comes from early telephones, where receivers literally hung on hooks.
Now it just means terminating a call: She hung up on me mid-sentence.
Hanging up on someone—disconnecting while they're still talking—is rude or signals anger.
The phrase also describes being stuck or delayed: The project is hanging up on permits.
