A half-wit is a foolish or stupid person—someone whose intelligence seems to operate at half capacity.
The term is insulting but relatively mild, often used in exasperation: Any half-wit could see that plan wouldn't work.
As an adjective, half-witted describes foolish actions or ideas: a half-witted scheme.
