Half-rim glasses have frames that hold the lenses only along the top edge, leaving the bottom exposed.
The lenses are secured by a thin nylon cord or grooved into the frame.
The style offers a lighter, less obtrusive look than full-frame glasses: His half-rim glasses gave him a professorial air.
