Thin directing filament
A guide wire is a thin, flexible wire used to direct the placement of medical devices—catheters, stents, or other instruments—through blood vessels or body cavities.
The wire is inserted first, then the device slides over it to reach the target location: The surgeon threaded a guide wire into the coronary artery.
