guest host
Fill-in show leader
A guest host is someone who temporarily takes over hosting duties from the regular host of a show, event, or venue.
The term contains a deliberate contradiction—a guest is typically welcomed by a host, not serving as one—but the meaning is clear: a substitute who fills the hosting role without permanent status.
Tonight's guest host is a comedian you'll recognize from late-night television.
