green lungs
City's breathing spaces
Green lungs are urban parks, forests, or vegetated areas that provide fresh air and environmental benefits to a city, functioning like lungs for the urban body.
The term emphasizes how these green spaces absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen: Central Park serves as the green lungs of Manhattan.
Also called the lungs of a city.
