gray box
Semi-transparent testing target
Gray box describes a testing or analysis approach where you have partial knowledge of a system's internal workings—more than black box (no internal knowledge) but less than white box (full access to code or structure).
In cybersecurity, a gray box test simulates an attacker who has gained some insider information: The penetration testers conducted a gray box assessment with limited credentials.
