grand plié
Full ballet bend
A grand plié is a deep knee bend in ballet where the dancer descends as far as possible while keeping the torso upright, heels lifting from the floor in most positions.
It's a fundamental exercise performed at the barre to warm up the legs and develop strength: We started class with demi-pliés, then moved to grand pliés in each position.
