grand chain
Dancers weave past
A grand chain is a figure in square dancing and other folk dances where partners face each other, clasp right hands, pass by, then give left hands to the next dancer, continuing alternately around the circle.
The movement creates a weaving pattern as dancers progress in opposite directions: The caller shouted "grand chain" and couples began their promenade around the set.
