government assistance
Public welfare programs
Government assistance refers to programs through which a government provides money, services, or resources to individuals or organizations in need.
This includes welfare payments, food stamps, housing subsidies, unemployment benefits, and similar support.
The term is often used as a neutral alternative to *welfare*, which carries more stigma: She's been on government assistance since losing her job.
Recipients may also receive assistance through tax credits, grants, or subsidized services like healthcare.
