go missing

Become suddenly absent

Go missing means to disappear or become lost, especially when the absence is unexpected or concerning.

The phrase often appears in news reports about people whose whereabouts are unknown: The hiker went missing three days ago.

It can also describe objects: My keys have gone missing again.

More common in British English than American, where "go missing" sometimes sounds slightly foreign to American ears.
