glistering

Catching the light

Glistering is an archaic or literary form of glistening—sparkling or shining with reflected light: All that glisters is not gold.

The word appears most famously in Shakespeare and survives mainly through that quotation.

In contemporary usage, glistening has almost entirely replaced it.
