genetic syndromes
Inherited medical disorders
Genetic syndromes are conditions caused by abnormalities in a person's DNA—missing, extra, or altered genetic material.
Each syndrome typically involves a recognizable cluster of symptoms affecting multiple body systems: Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, Marfan syndrome.
Some are inherited from parents; others arise from spontaneous mutations.
The term syndrome indicates a pattern of features that occur together.
