frozen account
Inaccessible bank balance
A frozen account is a bank account or financial account whose funds cannot be withdrawn or transferred.
Accounts are typically frozen by court order, government action, or the financial institution itself—often due to suspected fraud, unpaid debts, legal disputes, or regulatory investigation.
The account holder can usually still see the balance but cannot access it: The IRS froze his accounts pending the tax investigation.
Unfreezing requires resolving the underlying issue.
