fog lines
Pavement boundary markers
Fog lines are the white lines painted along the edges of a road, marking the boundary between the travel lane and the shoulder.
They help drivers stay on the road in poor visibility conditions—fog, rain, or darkness—when the center line may be hard to see: I followed the fog line through the storm.
