A fob watch is a pocket watch designed to be carried in a pocket or attached to clothing by a short chain or ribbon called a fob.
The fob often featured a decorative ornament and allowed the watch to be secured to a waistcoat or belt loop.
Before wristwatches became standard in the early twentieth century, fob watches were the dominant portable timepiece: He checked his fob watch and announced they were late.
