fire opal
Orange-red precious stone
Fire opal is a variety of opal displaying vivid red, orange, or yellow body color rather than the rainbow play of light found in precious opals.
Most fire opals come from Mexico.
The stone may be translucent or nearly transparent, with colors ranging from pale yellow to deep cherry red: She wore a fire opal pendant that glowed like an ember.
