fertilizer burn

Nutrient overdose damage

Fertilizer burn is damage to plants caused by applying too much fertilizer, which draws moisture out of roots and leaves through osmosis.

The result is brown, scorched-looking foliage that resembles heat damage: I gave the tomatoes too much nitrogen and now they have fertilizer burn.

The cure is thorough watering to flush excess salts from the soil.
