false signals
Misleading communication attempts
False signals are misleading indicators that suggest something untrue—a trend that isn't real, an intention that doesn't exist, or a pattern that won't hold.
In trading, a false signal suggests a price movement that fails to materialize: The uptick was a false signal; the stock dropped the next day.
More broadly, any communication or behavior that conveys inaccurate information, whether intentional or not: His friendliness turned out to be false signals.
