evolutionary history
Life's branching past
Evolutionary history is the record of how a species, group, or trait developed and changed over time through natural selection and other processes.
It traces lineages back through ancestors, showing relationships between organisms: The evolutionary history of whales reveals they descended from land mammals.
Also called phylogeny in technical contexts.
