evening primroses
Dusk-opening yellow flowers
Evening primroses are flowering plants in the genus Oenothera, named for their characteristic habit of blooming in late afternoon or evening.
The flowers, typically yellow but sometimes white or pink, open as daylight fades and remain open through the night, attracting moths and other nocturnal pollinators.
Evening primrose oil, extracted from the seeds, is marketed as a dietary supplement.
Despite their name, these plants are not related to true primroses.
