engineer corps

Army construction unit

A military unit responsible for construction, fortification, and technical operations.

Engineer corps build bridges, roads, and defensive structures, clear obstacles, and handle demolition and mine warfare.

The term also applies to civilian organizations doing large-scale infrastructure work: The Army Corps of Engineers manages flood control projects.

Members are called combat engineers or military engineers.
