emergency rations
Survival food supply
Emergency rations are food supplies kept for survival situations—natural disasters, military operations, or being stranded in remote areas.
They're designed for long shelf life and high caloric density rather than taste: The lifeboat contained emergency rations and fresh water.
The term sometimes applies figuratively to any backup food supply: I keep emergency rations of chocolate in my desk.
