elm tree
Dutch disease victim
An elm tree is a tall deciduous tree of the genus Ulmus, known for its arching branches and serrated leaves.
Elms were once common along American streets before Dutch elm disease devastated populations in the mid-20th century.
The phrase is often used interchangeably with simply elm: The old elm tree in the backyard finally came down in the storm.
