An egg McMuffin is a breakfast sandwich sold by McDonald's, consisting of a fried egg, Canadian bacon, and cheese on a toasted English muffin.
The name has become somewhat generic for any similar breakfast sandwich: I grabbed an egg McMuffin on the way to work.
Introduced in 1972, it helped establish fast-food breakfast as a category.
