drum lines
Marching band beats
Drum lines are baited hooks anchored offshore to catch and kill sharks, used by coastal authorities to reduce shark attacks near swimming beaches.
The practice is controversial—critics argue it kills sharks indiscriminately without proven effectiveness.
Queensland has maintained drum lines since the 1960s.
Also called shark nets when referring to the broader shark control program.
