driving away

Making them leave

Driving away describes the act of departing in a vehicle, moving from a stationary position to travel elsewhere: I watched him driving away until the taillights disappeared.

It also means causing someone or something to leave or retreat, often through force, intimidation, or unpleasantness: The noise was driving away customers.

In this second sense, driving away suggests compelling departure rather than voluntary leaving—you drive away pests, competitors, or unwanted attention.
