drawing boards
Where blueprints begin
Drawing boards are flat surfaces used for drafting, sketching, or technical drawing, typically tilted at an angle for easier work.
The phrase back to the drawing board means starting over after a plan fails—returning to the initial design stage.
Go back to the drawing boards and on the drawing board (still being planned) are common expressions.
