dot-matrix printer
Pixel-based output device
A dot-matrix printer is a type of printer that forms characters and images by striking an ink ribbon with a grid of tiny pins, creating patterns of dots on paper.
Common from the 1970s through 1990s, they were noisy but durable, capable of printing on continuous-feed paper and carbon copies.
Largely replaced by inkjet and laser printers for most purposes, they persist in specialized applications like receipts and multipart forms.
